Ahmoo Angeconeb: 1955 - 2017
Ahmoo had his first solo exhibition, called AHNEESHEENAHPAY STILL LIFE, at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery in 1987. The Gallery owns 43 works by Ahmoo, including the iconic Man from Caribou Totem and Man from Caribou Totem Box (1995), two sculptures that welcome each and every visitor to the Gallery.
While he was greatly influenced by Norval Morrisseau, Ahmoo developed his own personal style and often focused on Anishnawbae cosmology in his work. His detailed drawings on paper express Ahmoo’s interpretation of traditional stories from the Anishnawbae people.
Ahmoo Angeconeb’s work can be found in collections across Europe, Canada and the US. He will be greatly missed.
