Leo Hunnakko Collection

Leo Hunnakko was the owner and President of Canada Fine Art & Frame Ltd. that operated for some twenty-seven years from 1979 to 2006. The company was established as a quality custom framing facility specializing in the works of primarily Canadian artists such as Glen Loates, Norval Morriseau, Walter Campbell, Roy Henry Wright, Liz Lesperance, James Lumbers and Robert Bateman among many others. Furthermore, the company helped to introduce various American artists such as Bev Doolittle and Stephen Lyman into the Canadian market. Numerous exhibits were mounted featuring Glen Loates, Robert Bateman, Trisha Romance, Walter Campbell, James Lumbers, Ron Parker, John Seerey-Lester and many others.

In time the company expanded to as many as five outlets in and around the Toronto and Greater Toronto Area (GTA) – North York, Downtown Toronto (Designers’ Walk), Markham, Pickering and Port Hope. In conjunction with this expansion, the company diversified within the art and framing industry to offer a comprehensive range of services including fine art sales - retail and wholesale (residential and corporate); custom framing including corporate, interior design etc. as well as specializing in archival coating and mounting; Fine Art Printing – Giclée Printmaking to the highest standards (lightfastness up to 100 years) on the finest acid-free watercolour papers or canvas as well as Fine Art Web Marketing

Throughout that period of almost thirty years, Leo built up his own personal collection, selecting works that he considered to be both appealing and to have realistic and significant collector value. Many date back to the early 1980’s. Now over thirty years later, after moving back to the original Hunnakko Homestead (since 1935), undertaking a major renovation job and building a year-round GH365 greenhouse, Leo is for the first time making these selected fine art works available to the public.
